We understand that the first time you reach out to a family law lawyer is one of the most difficult things. How do you know what to expect before even making the call?
Below is a list of questions we hear often during introductory calls and consultations:
Q: "What is the cost of the consultation?"
A: Our consults are free for the first 40 minutes! If we go over, you will only pay for the portion of the hour you spend with our lawyer after the 40 minutes is up. Usually 40 minutes, in our experience, is enough to figure out the next steps, whether we are a good fit, and we can help you figure out what your next steps are.
Q: "I worry about not knowing what is going on, it's my first time dealing with a lawyer, will you communicate with me?"
A: There are many reasons why some clients may feel unheard by their lawyer. It may be even completely unintentional and that the file is in good shape! However, we understand that you are going through a rather stressful time and our assurance to you is our complete transparency about our work, management of your file, and our fees. You will know at all times where your file is heading and you will always have a say in it after hearing our legal advice and options.
Q: "What information do you need for the consultation? Do I bring anything?"
A: You can send us a general question via the Messenger box at the right corner of this website or by filling out a more comprehensive Intake Sheet in our "Contact Us" Section. You can email us directly or call us and leave a message as well. We recommend taking a look at the Intake Form in any event go get an idea of what we would be asking from you. If you know you want to have a consultation, filling out the Intake Form will allow us to be fully prepared for the meeting and you can even attach documents for us to review in advance.
Q: "I have some questions, but I cannot afford a lawyer, can I still see you?"
A: You have no obligation to hire any lawyer you have a consultation with! But you will benefit from years of our experience, knowledge, and guidance even in the 30-60 minutes spent with us. Our joy is to see the relief after we carefully explain the process and assure you that quite often, things are much more manageable than they seem! We have had clients retain us the same day and we have had clients retain us 1-2 years after the initial consultation. We understand that this is a process. We hope to be a part of your journey toward your new restructured "normal".
